Ooh, the ladies at the Senior Yenta lunch are going to be so envious of my new mah-jongg bracelet!
Exclusively Mah Jongg is selling them for $20, but I got mine for half that (’cause I have special Jewish mother bargain sniffing talents, yo.)
Maybe if I buy one for all of them they’ll finally teach me how to play.
So Yo — Do you think Shir Lei knows how to play Mah Jongg?
(for non-Savannahians; Shir Lei is a descendant of the Chinese Jews of Kaifeng & he is visiting our temple next Shabbat)
As a lad, and I mean young, one of my mother’s Mah Jong compatriots was named Shirley, a very Jewish female, although not from Kaifeng.
OMGosh, Dan – maybe! Let’s set him up with the ladies! They’ll win every penny off him!
Schvach — My mom’s name is Shirley and she loves Mah Jongg. Isn’t it amazing what a small J-world this is?
I’m not Jewish and I don’t know what Mah Jong is but I’m having horrible flashbacks of serving tea and my Granny’s bridge club gatherings. Feeling woosy…
Dan:
It coitainly is!
Dana — MJ is kind of like bridge for yentas, although it look more like Chinese dominoes imho,

btw — thanks for featuring our YoYe in your column!
