I know y’all are busy. There’s eleventy billion other websites out there competing for your attention, and I am super grateful you’ve chosen to spend a few moments with me (an average 1.7 minutes, according to Google Analytics.)
Sometimes I even get to run into you local readers in person, like at the JEA when I’ve just finished a sweaty workout and I’m really hoping you don’t stand too close to me because I can’t remember if I actually used the deodorant this morning or just looked at it before Little Yenta Girl ran into the bathroom with a fork entangled in her hair because she wanted to comb it like The Little Mermaid, or, in the parking lot at Publix after I’ve just flipped you the finger for swooping into my parking space (really sorry about that, Miz Bernice, I didn’t realize it was handicapped. Next Thursday, Senior lunch is on me.)
You’re always so nice and gracious, and it really throws me for a loop that there are so many of you out there. I can’t read the Googly Anal report thingies very well, but it seems like there’s more of clicking around in here than just my mother, so I’m kinda flummoxed as to why last week’s Oh Nuts! Chocolate Contest was such a flop. Only a handful of you entered, and of those, NOT ONE of you left an email so I could contact you. Was it too easy? Too contrived? Your snubbing is feeling as bittersweet as old gelt. You’ll click on a ridiculous Facebook ad about winning an iPad, but the idea of free chocolate does not entice you?
So, I’m thinking “do-over.” And this time, let’s make it a little more interesting:
Yo, Yenta!’s Gone Nuts Chanukah Contest
Open a new tab and visit the Oh Nuts! and pick a favorite treat.
In the comments section of THIS POST THAT YOU ARE READING RIGHT NOW, paste the URL (just copy and paste the address) of your treat—look, the Oh Nuts! people need their props!
Then, please entertain me with a few words about the very worst, inappropriate and/or crappiest Chanukah or Christmas present anyone ever gave you. I want to know about six-toed socks, lacy panties from your bubbe and racist fruitcakes. Live animal tales and office holiday “white elephant” horror stories are especially welcome.
Don’t forget to put an email; I promise I am not competent enough to sell it or use it for anything other than alerting you if you’re the winner. On Thursday, Dec. 9, after Yenta Boy’s fifth grade band performance, the entire Yenta Family will pick one entrant to win $25 of Oh Nuts! dollars to spend—thas’ alotta candy.
C’mon, gimme your goodies in the comments below, and may your sixth night of light be sweet and bright!

I didn’t enter before because I don’t eat or like chocolate.
Worst holiday ever? Our first Christmas married. Brian gave me all my watches with replaced batteries in them as my gift. I kept opening watches. Watches I already owned. Then he gave me a new watch as my final gift. Needless to say, I didn’t think to pull out the batteries so every single watch died 8 months later.
I got a g-string from my mother in law with santa claus on the front. My mother in law is almost 80 years old
The worst gift I ever got was a note my husband wrote me with marker AFTER he got the cashmere sweater I gave him. It wasn’t even touching or thoughtful. Just a “Have a good day” kind of sentiment.
while i almost picked the Chocolate-dipped glazed kiwi (… ew?), i have decided on the Chocolate-coated ginger (i’m almost bored with my option, now!), but i’d really like to at least try one of the kiwi variety.

and… the worst Chanukkah gift i have been given is… a sweater that my grandma made that reeked completely of cigarette smoke. i was five years old, going ‘… thanks. *sniff sniff*’
to be honest, i had to search my brain for that one. when you’ve received big boomboxes and gift cards for Hanukkah, it’s hard to pick a doozy.
although a pretty bad Hanukkah gift last year was not being able to see all of you because i was in Boulder.
i love you guys!
Eva

Worst gift: Any given tin of “confections” sent to me by a car dealership. Just…no.

The worst gift I ever got, that I can remember, was a box of SERIOUSLY scented pillar candles. The scents competed and no one was a winner, I assure you. I had to store them on my porch until I could dispose of them.
Cori, great story. great story. i’m giggling just thinking about it.
Once my artist Grandmother bought an aqua colored sweatshirt and painted a tiger on it. Then she took some gold beads, strung them on gold thread and decorated the tiger with a realistic dangling earring.
OOPs!

One year some cheap ass MD (in this town, will not mention names)sent us a bag of rice. He owns a rice plantation in SC, so, he gets to double dip on his tax deductions!

My worst Hanukkah gift was a special photo insert thingy for a wallet. When I was eleven. And did not yet carry a wallet.
The next year she just sent a letter to my mom saying her heart wasn’t into shopping for her husband’s nieces anymore. We did not mind.

I tried to enter last time, but apparently didn’t do it right.
No worries, a return to the Oh Nuts site yielded me this lovely find — Snapple popsicles?!?!? Shut. Up. Now I’m in it to win it, cuz.
My worst gift? Well, one year my sweet, soft-spoken, tiny little grandma spent too much of her Social Security check buying me a stuffed bulldog that wore a tee shirt that read, “Be Reasonable: Do it MY way!” When I opened it, the whole family erupted in about 10 minutes of uncontrollable laughter. Seriously — my aunt Brenda almost peed her pants.
I still don’t get the joke ;->
I love the 8 days of treats basket. how clever! http://www.ohnuts.com/buy.cfm/hanukkah-gifts/baskets/8-days-of-treats-gift-basket
My worst gift must have been a when i received a sweater for christmas, even though i told everyone not to give me winter-wear because i was leaving to go to thailand in a few weeks to study for a semester! i didnt get to wear it until the next year!
I’m pretty sure I included an email last time, hmmmmmm. I picked this, yummy goodies PLUS a gift for all year long!

Worst Hanukkah Gift EVER, was the year I was told I wasn’t getting ANYTHING anymore now that I had my twins. Made perfect sense, NOT… skip me & go directly to the next generation!
Eva’s Mom 😀
I can’ think of a holiday pres that I can post w/o hurting someones feelings but this wedding gift I think captures the spirit. It was a pair of oversized brass candelabras that I’m sure were re-gifted.
There was something creepy about them. They reminded me of something you would find at the Adamms Family or Elvira set. Everytime I looked at them, I could hear an Vincent Price’s voice over a gloomy organ overture.
